## How Discord User IDs work

A Discord User ID is a snowflake: a long number Discord generates when the account is created. You'll see it as a 17–19 digit string (for example, 123456789012345678). It never changes — even if the person renames themselves, switches discriminators (legacy), or updates their display name.

That's why mods, bots, and Discord Support prefer IDs over usernames. Usernames can be reused or mistyped; a User ID always points at one account. The number also encodes when the account was created, which is why this lookup can show an account age / creation date from the ID alone.

## How to copy a Discord User ID

Discord hides raw IDs until you turn on Developer Mode. On desktop or the browser app: User Settings → Advanced → enable Developer Mode. On mobile: Settings → Behavior → Developer Mode.

Once it's on, right-click a user (profile, member list, or a message they sent) and choose Copy User ID. On mobile, long-press their profile or avatar and tap Copy User ID. Paste that number into the box above — no @mention, no extra spaces.
