Discord Colored Text Generator
Create Discord colored text with ANSI code blocks. Pick foreground and background colors, bold, or underline — copy the ```ansi block and paste it into Discord.
How Discord colored text actually works
Discord has no color picker for normal chat. Colored text is an ANSI-styled code block: Discord treats the ```ansi language tag like ```js or ```python, except the “highlighting” is terminal-style colors and backgrounds instead of code keywords. This generator builds that block for you — when you copy, you get a full ```ansi … ``` fence with ANSI escape sequences (\x1b[…m) for the styles you picked.
The palette matches what Discord renders in ANSI blocks: foreground codes 30–37 (dark gray, red, green, gold, blue, pink, teal, white), background codes 40–47, plus bold (1) and underline (4). You can stack a foreground, background, and style on the same span. There’s no arbitrary hex — only this fixed terminal set. Type in the preview, click the swatches, then hit copy and paste the result into Discord as-is.
| What you pick | ANSI codes | What Discord shows |
|---|---|---|
| Foreground color | 30–37 | Dark gray, red, green, gold, blue, pink, teal, white |
| Background color | 40–47 | Dark / rust / gray / blurple / cream-style blocks |
| Bold / underline | 1 / 4 | Heavier weight or underlined text |
| Copy output | ```ansi fence | A bordered monospace code block with colors |
Where Discord colored text works (and where it doesn’t)
It works anywhere you can send a multi-line code block: server text channels, threads, forum posts, group DMs, and 1:1 DMs — as long as the channel allows messages with code fences. Desktop and web Discord render the colors reliably; current mobile clients usually do too. If a client doesn’t support ANSI highlighting, people still see your words as plain monospace inside a code block — readable, just not colored.
It does not work for nicknames, display names, About Me / bios, channel topics, role names, or status text. Those fields don’t run code-block highlighting, so pasting an ```ansi block there either fails or shows raw backticks. Same for most embed titles/descriptions built outside a normal message. Stick to chat messages and announcement posts when you want Discord colored text.
Limits and tips for readable colored text
Contrast matters more than “more color.” White or light text on cream, or dark gray on a dark background, washes out — especially on mobile and in Discord’s dark theme. Prefer high-contrast pairs (e.g. white on dark, gold on dark, red on dark) for warnings and headers. Underline and bold help hierarchy; stacking every color in one block makes the message harder to scan.
Use color sparingly. One colored header or a short callout beats a rainbow paragraph. Code blocks also disable normal markdown inside them (no # headings, *italics*, or spoilers inside the fence), so keep the colored block for the highlight and write the rest of the message in regular Discord markdown. Long walls of ANSI text are awkward to edit later and can feel spammy in busy channels — save them for pins, rules, and announcements.
ANSI colors vs fancy Discord fonts
Use this Discord colored text generator when you want actual color in a chat or announcement and you’re fine with the code-block look. Use the Discord Font Generator when you need fancy Unicode (cursive, bold math letters, gothic, bubble) for nicknames, bios, or inline text that must sit outside a code block — those styles paste anywhere but they don’t add real color.
Think of Discord formatting as layers: normal Discord markdown (*italic*, **bold**, spoilers, -# subtext, lists) for everyday chat; ANSI code blocks when you need colored callouts; Unicode fonts when the field can’t take a code block. Pick the layer that fits the place you’re posting, not every trick in one message.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this Discord Colored Text Generator free to use?
Yes — free, no signup, and no limits on how many Discord colored text blocks you generate.
How does Discord colored text / ANSI coloring work?
Discord colors text inside an ```ansi code block using ANSI escape codes. This generator wraps your text in that fence and inserts the right codes (foreground 30–37, background 40–47, bold, underline) automatically — you copy and paste into Discord.
What colors does Discord ANSI support?
A fixed terminal palette: dark gray, red, green, gold, blue, pink, teal, and white text, plus matching background swatches. You can’t pick arbitrary hex colors.
Where can I use Discord colored text?
In any channel or DM that allows code blocks (text channels, threads, forums, DMs). It does not work in nicknames, bios, topics, or status fields — those need Unicode fonts instead.
Does Discord colored text work on mobile?
Usually yes on current Discord mobile apps. If a client doesn’t support ANSI highlighting, your message still shows as readable plain text inside a code block.
Can I colorize long messages?
Yes — the whole message sits in one ```ansi block. Keep contrast high and avoid rainbowing every line so it stays readable on mobile.
