Discord Rules Template — Copy & Paste Server Rules
Ready Discord server rules templates with markdown. Copy a community, gaming, chill, or study ruleset and paste it into your #rules channel.
Discord rules templates
Pick a style, copy the markdown, paste into #rules, and lock send permissions for @everyone. For Community servers, also enable Membership Screening.
Works for most general servers — clear, not overlong.
**Server Rules** **1. Be respectful** No harassment, hate speech, slurs, or personal attacks. **2. No spam or unsolicited promo** Don't flood channels. Self-promo only in approved channels (ask staff first). **3. Keep it SFW** Unless a channel is clearly marked NSFW and age-gated, keep content appropriate. **4. Use the right channels** Read channel topics. Keep conversations where they belong. **5. Listen to staff** Mods have final say on edge cases. If asked to stop, stop. **6. Follow Discord ToS** Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines always apply. Breaking rules may result in a warn, mute, kick, or ban.

How to add rules to a Discord server
Create a text channel named rules (or guidelines). Edit channel permissions so @everyone cannot Send Messages, but can View Channel and Read Message History. Paste your template, format with Discord markdown, and pin the message.
If the server is a Community server, open Server Settings → Safety Setup (or Membership Screening) and add rule text so new members must accept before chatting.
Customize tone and formatting
Start from a template, then edit lines that don’t fit. Keep Discord ToS references. For spoiler-heavy gaming servers, point members at spoiler tags and your markdown cheat sheet.

How It Works
Add Discord server rules in three steps.
Choose a template
Community, gaming, chill lounge, or study hub — pick the tone that matches your server.
Copy the markdown
Templates use Discord **bold** markdown so they look clean when pasted.
Post in #rules
Paste, pin, and deny Send Messages for @everyone. Enable Membership Screening on Community servers.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many Discord rules should I have?
Most servers do well with 5–8 clear rules covering respect, spam, NSFW, channels, staff authority, and Discord ToS. Long lists get ignored.
Can I edit these templates?
Yes — they’re starting points. Adjust tone and add server-specific lines (game names, study subjects, age limits) before posting.
Do rules replace Discord’s Terms of Service?
No. Server rules sit on top of Discord’s ToS and Community Guidelines. Illegal or ToS-breaking content is still banned.
